| Hello all,
As we all know, coronavirus is on the rise in the U.S. and many people are worried and have questions regarding the disease. There have been many false claims made about this illness and we wanted to shed some light on it. The following information is from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC):
-Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
-Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Get your Flu shot.
-Stay home when you are sick.
- Follow general cleanliness procedures (washing hands after using the bathroom, avoid touching your face or biting your nails, avoiding those whom are sick.)
-Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
-Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
-Contact your PCP if you feel you may have contracted the disease and they will be able to set up a treatment plan and walk you through the steps you would need to take.
- COVID-19 is not the flu, however it is recommended that those who are diagnosed with it treat it as if you have the flu, such as: staying inside and away from others, staying hydrated, and taking medications to help with fever if you have one.
-CDC does NOT RECOMMEND that people who are well wear a face-mask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19. It is only recommended that those who are either diagnosed with COVID-19 or flu like symptoms wear a mask. Wearing a mask if you are well and not ill will not prevent you from getting the coronavirus. People who are more at risk for contracting the disease are those with compromised immune systems, and those who are older.
-Remember: experts at the CDC are stating that the best way to protect yourself from the disease is by washing your hands, not wearing a mask!
Lastly, we would like to emphasize that the Rhode Island Dept. of Health is actively tracking the virus and is providing updates to all when they become available. On the bottom of this page, we have included two hyperlinked addresses to CDC websites providing tips on preventing the illness. |
