It’s not often in the fire service, we get to report this kind of news, so today’s post is a special one. On October 14, 2022, members of the Little Compton Fire Department were dispatched along with officers of the Little Compton Police Department to South Shore Beach for a reported unresponsive person. Upon arrival crews found a beach goer had suffered a cardiac arrest while out in the water and was pulled to shore by a close friend and a fellow bystander. They quickly began resuscitation efforts with the aid of multiple bystanders. Their hard work paid off, and they successfully revived the patient who regained consciousness in the back of the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Yesterday on December 7, 2022, those members and bystanders reunited with the patient they successfully saved. It is with great pleasure to announce that with the help of Saint Anne’s Hospital EMS Administrator Ron Audette. Little Compton Fire Department members: Captain Randall Watt, Lieutenant David Nickerson, Firefighter Jonathan Bednarz, Firefighter Jason Dasilva, Sergeant Patrick Martin, and Sergeant Jay Harris of the Little Compton Police Department were presented with certificates of recognition for exceptional service from Steward Healthcare, the American Heart Association, and from Chief Richard Petrin of the Little Compton Fire Department, and Chief Scott Raynes of the Little Compton Police Department. Multiple bystanders that happened to be visiting the beach that day jumped into action when they saw a person in need. Captain Andrew Sisson of Warwick Fire Department, Registered Nurse Elizabeth Truax from Oahu, Hawaii, David Clement of Somerset Fire Department, and Todd Treanor also received certificates of recognition.
