On Thursday, August 20, 2026, at approximately 23:55 hours. LCFD Engine 1 and Tanker 1 were dispatched to the area of Stone Church Rd and Main St. for reports of a possible basement fire with smoke in the residence. Additional resources from Tiverton were requested. The East Bay Tanker Task Force was activated upon confirmation of a structure fire. Upon arrival crews reported smoke in the residence and exterior damage to the Charlie/Delta corner. Crews were directed to a crawlspace accessible from the basement and upon entering the crawlspace found the area of origin. The Tanker Task Force response was cancelled and the scene was handled by LC and Tiverton departments. Crews utilized pressurized water cans to bring fire under control and additional manpower began overhaul looking for extension. A Westport Rescue was dispatched to the scene to evaluate a first responder, no transport was required. The State Fire Marshal's Office responded as well as the town Building Official. No injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation.
