Yesterday, the LCFD was dispatched to a commercial property for a report of a lighting fixture on fire with smoke in the building. Upon arrival crews found light smoke conditions with the lighting fixture extinguished and all occupants evacuated. A member of the business’s staff used a portable fire extinguisher to put out the fire. Thanks to the staff members quick action, and this businesses dedication to Fire safety practices (clearly marked and serviceable fire extinguishers, working alarm system) the fire did not grow or pose a danger to life or property.
The LCFD with the help of Tiverton fire department and the state fire marshal‘s office were able to clear the building and search for extension.
