Hiring Process Guidelines
FIREFIGHTERS
The following requirements must be met prior to application submission:
- Age Requirement: Minimum eighteen (18) years of age.
- Education Requirement: At the time of filing you must possess a four (4) year high school diploma or an equivalent General Education Diploma (GED).
- United States Citizenship: Applicant must be a United States citizen and provide proof of citizenship.
- Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs (RIAFC) PPA test certificate: Applicant must be listed with the RIAFC as having passed the Physical Performance Assessment test (PPA).
Application Forms and Filing Requirements:
Applicants must submit copies of the following:
Copy of your Resume
Copy of your current valid Drivers license
Copy of your Birth Certificate
Copy of your High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate
Copy of your Current Valid RI EMT-C Certificate
Copy of your Current Valid Physical Performance Assessment Certificate
Copy of any College Degree or Training and Certification Certificates
Completed, signed Pre-Water Rescue Swim Assessment medical Examination form
Completed, signed, and notarized Permission For Release of Information for Criminal Records
Testing
A written examination will be administered to all eligible applicants. The test date is to be determined. Once the test date and location have been determined, you will be notified. There will be no late admission to the written examination. you will not be eligible to continue in the hiring process if you do not pass this examination. Minimum passing score is 70, Maximum score possible is 100%. There will be no make up exams, all process fees submitted are non-refundable.
PART-TIME FIREFIGHTERS
Requirements:

- NFPA 1001 - Firefighter 1 Certificate

Must complete a Psychological Evaluation
Must fill complete Permission For Release of Information for Criminal Records
Must complete Swim Assessment
* Must obtained within one (1) year of appointment
